My Favorite Safe Foods

I still have many days where choosing what to eat is the hardest thing I have to do. That’s why in recovery, your therapist will help you come up with safe foods. Foods that you can fall back on when you’re having a rough day eating wise.

Jules and I on one of our many Taste of Thai trips.
  1. Chicken Drunken Noodles from any Thai place but especially Taste of Thai. I go to Taste of Thai a lot. Like so much that the waitresses recognize me and know my order. Drunken noodles are consistently amazing and somehow always come with the perfect vegetable to noodle ratio, and the sauce always has the perfect spice level.
  2. Smoothie bowls. Smoothie bowls are particularly good if I’m having a day where I classify food as either good or bad. Bowls combine carbs from the fruit, with protein via protein powder in the smoothie base, and fats from toppings like granola or coconut flakes.
  3. Protein bars, especially Luna bars and Zone Perfect mint chocolate chip bars. The lemon Luna bars literally taste like a regular lemon bar. The Zone perfect ones taste pretty similar to Thin Mints and have 14g of protein per bar which is pretty good. The one thing I have to mention is that the Zone perfect bars have a slightly gritty texture, so if that bothers you, you might not like these.
  4. Penna Alla vodka. A classic, quick pasta dish that is always yummy. Bonus points if you use Gigi Hadid’s recipe Gigi Hadid Pasta (Spicy Pasta Alla Vodka) – GypsyPlate ! If you’re slightly lactose intolerant like I am, you can create a roux out of flour and water and skim milk to replace the heavy whipping cream.
